Lots of Prize Drawings, Food and Drink Specials The Norm on Super Bowl
Sunday
By Bill Coburn
Before we get into
the Super Bowl stuff, I thought I’d let you know that Sierra Madre Blvd. Grill
has opened in Sierra Madre this week. You’ll find a menu that features burgers,
salads, Tri-tip and ribs, as well as lots of outdoor seating with a gorgeous
view of the San Gabriel Mountains. I haven’t had a chance yet to try the food,
but this is one future review I’m really looking forward to doing. You’ll find
their menu at
www.sangabrielvalleymenus.com/smblvdgrill.
Also, the menu for
Bangkok Blue Thai Cuisine in La Verne has been added to the site this week. You
can find it at
www.sangabrielvalleymenus.com/bangkokblue.
Okay, on to the Super
Bowl. I made a few calls this week, and got some general ideas of what some of
the different places that are on the SGVMenus.com website are doing for Super
Bowl Sunday. There are lots of choices and lots of specials. Here’s what I
found out, alphabetically. No, I didn’t call everybody, just the places I
thought would be running Super Bowl specials in their lounges, with sufficient
TV viewing area.
Brass Elephant,
311 W. Foothill Blvd., Monrovia (626) 303-3666 – Food and drink specials
throughout the game, drawings for prizes throughout the game, as well.
California Brewing
Company, 100 Main Street, Alhambra
(626) 943-8430
– Drawings for prizes to be held periodically,
with reduced prices on pitchers of beer and beer buckets. Also, Bud Light
models will be making an appearance.
Dockside Grill,
3057 E. Garvey Ave., West Covina (626) 915-FISH (3474) – Happy Hour prices all
day long
Frank and Dean’s
Restaurant and Supper Club, 3768 E.
Colorado Blvd., Pasadena (626) 793-1847 – Will have a big screen TV set up, and
an all you can eat buffet for $6.
Frank and Joe’s
Southern Smokehouse, 110 E. Colorado
Blvd., Monrovia (626) 357-1616 – All you can eat Burgers and Dogs buffet for
$15, 2 big screens, all bottled beers just $2.00.
Gem City Grill,
115-117 E. Olive Ave., Monrovia (626) 358-0342 – 7 TVs, 2 bars, free buffet and
drink specials.
Gino’s Primo Pizza,
717 W. Las Tunas Dr., San Gabriel (626) 576-5945 – Opening early, 2 big screen
TVs, $6 domestic beer pitchers, other appetizer and drink specials
Hooter’s,
98 E. Colorado Blvd., Old Town Pasadena (626) 395-7700 – Guaranteed to be
packed, so you can reserve a seat in advance for $10, or take your chances first
come, first serve. Trivia contests, drawings for prizes including a TV
giveaway, a strong man contest, and bus tub races. I’m assuming that’s like the
trays that busboys use to clear a table, though I could be wrong.
Los Gueros Sports
Bar, 323 W. Huntington Dr., Monrovia
(626) 358-9985 – Eight TVs, Happy Hour throughout the game, Budweiser models
will be making an appearance.
Matt Denny’s
Alehouse Restaurant, 145 E. Huntington
Dr., Arcadia (626) 446-1077– Happy Hour prices during the game (draft beer, well
and wine), appetizer buffet during the second and third quarters, 10 TVs, Corona
models will be making an appearance, drawings for prizes.
Moose
McGillycuddy’s, 119 E. Colorado Blvd.,
Old Town Pasadena (626) 304-9955 – 30 screens, including 2 big screens. Prizes
every quarter, drink specials, appearances by models for various beers.
Reservations are recommended, they’re nearly all taken. Call and ask for
Anderson.
Posse’s Sports Bar,
1212 S. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia (626) 446-4427 – 7 Flat screen TVs, drink
specials, drawings for free prizes, free pizza and wings buffet and more. In
the interest of full disclosure, I work at Posse’s, and will be tending bar that
day.
The Boat,
8976 Huntington Dr., San Gabriel (626) 286-1484 – Ten TV monitors, including two
big screens. By the way, for those who’ve heard otherwise, the Boat will be
open during construction. I’ve had at least half a dozen people tell me it’s
closing. Doesn’t appear that way. They’re open. Call the number above, and
you’ll hear them say “We’re open during construction.”
Remember, it’s
important to have a designated driver if you’re going to be taking advantage of
these drink specials. There’s enough people out there on the road acting
irresponsibly, you don’t need to be a part of it. Call a taxi, make arrangements
to be picked up, whatever. But don’t get behind the wheel if you’ve been
drinking.
I kind of wish I didn’t like
football (and I wasn’t working). I’d just hop in the car and go from buffet to
buffet, and enter all the drawings. Free prizes and free eats? Works for me.
